Born on 21st July 1981, Pandit Sumit Sharma hails from a deeply musical lineage that has been serving the art of music since 1949, beginning with his grandfather Dr. J.R. Sharma. Recognizing a spark in young Sumit, his grandfather introduced him to the guitar at the age of 10, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey in music.
A pivotal moment came when Mr. Peter, a gifted flutist, singer, guitarist, and palmist from England, arrived in India to learn Santoor from Mr. Ravi Sharma. Mr. Peter became a mentor to Sumit, teaching him how to tune the guitar and predicting—through palmistry—that Sumit would one day become a great musician.
Sumit’s musical path expanded as he began observing vocal lessons taught by his grandfather. At just 11 years old, he was entrusted with teaching guitar to beginners—an early testament to his talent and dedication. Guided by the philosophy that “Gyaan baanto to badhta hai” (Knowledge grows when shared), Sumit began imparting music education, and his journey never paused.
